Sell Yourself Short!

Do your kids bully others? Is your kid a victim of verbal or physical harassment? My older daughter was emotionally tormented in First (yes!) Grade by a larger female classmate. I find it interesting that bullying, which has happened since the dawn of time, is receiving such a microscopic examination. If you have a preschool-age child (or work with this age group) read what one father said in "Preschool politics" http://tinyurl.com/2b62elg .

Although some behaviors are normal in the progress of development, that doesn't preclude the parent from stepping in and teaching (discipline) an appropriate behavior. The responsibility lies on parents to accept that some aggressive behaviors are norm, to keep a vigilant eye on their immature little darling, and be ready to intervene and teach simple conflict resolution.

Don't sell your discipline short of the best because you're exhausted. Your precious little ones grow up to be either contributors - or detriments - to society. Dr. Karl Menninger wisely observed, "What's done to children, they will do to society." What are you doing to teach about communication, conflict resolution, and compromise?

Sure, child discipline is never-ending; but whether tots or teens, they need parental guidance! For the sake of your happy home life, your child and of our world, remember the value and purpose of discipline . . . and just do it!

Need more discipline help - or know someone who does? There are 8 effective methods on my 1-hour CD, "Creative Discipline." You can order it now by mailing $12 (incl S&H) to me at PO Box 1302, Mount Vernon, OH 43050. It's easy listening for busy parents on the go.

Another powerful resource for disciplining kids is Dr. Sal Severe's How to Behave So Your Kids Will, Too! Read these reviews and consider ordering a copy http://tinyurl.com/2avknd5.

As always, my award-winning, The Birth to Five Book is available in bookstores nationwide and on Amazon http://is.gd/jaTZ. It's chocked full of short chapters with help, hope and answers about childrearing. Get a copy for yourself or for someone with a baby, toddler or preschooler! You can order autographed copies from me by sending $14 per book to me at PO Box 1302, Mount Vernon, OH 43050.
