Dictator, Nursemaid, or Coach?

In raising children, are you more like a dictator, nursemaid, or a coach?

Consider this explanation by Wesley H. Fleming in his book, Raising Children on Purpose , "Dictators engender fear. Nursemaids tend to coddle. Coaches inspire trust and devotion. . . . Good coaches insist on complete cooperation but do not shame or humiliate their players. When your child refuses to clean up his room, calmly command, 'I know you're frustrated; nevertheless, you will clean up your room.' Acknowledging your child's feelings while remaining firm assures [him] that it is safe to comply -- that your authority has [his] best interests in mind."

I challenge you to listen to yourself. What do you sound like in daily discipline, a dictator, nursemaid, or coach? Leave your comment and tell me how you answered.

Brenda, I think I'm a mixture of all three...depending on the day, my mood, and the circumstances. But I aspire to be the coach. That would be a great goal to achieve.
